Statement of Faith
The Emerge Church Statement of Faith
1. The Bible We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21)
2. God We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
3. Jesus Christ We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory. (John 1:1-4; Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 4:15; Acts 2:22; Romans 5:8-9; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Acts 1:9-11)
4. Salvation We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, resulting in regeneration by the Holy Spirit. It is a gift from God, not the result of our works. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10)
5. The Holy Spirit We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. The Holy Spirit empowers believers for service and witness, grants spiritual gifts, and produces spiritual fruit. (John 14:26; Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22-23; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
6. The Church We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The Church is composed of all believers, and its mission is to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey all that Christ has commanded. (Ephesians 1:22-23; Matthew 28:19-20)
7. Baptism and Communion We believe in the ordinances of water baptism and communion. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward change, signifying the believer's identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. Communion is a memorial of Christ's sacrificial death and a celebration of our covenant with Him. (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
8. The Great Commission We believe in the Church's mission to go into the world and preach the Gospel to every creature, making disciples, baptizing them, and teaching them to observe all that Jesus Christ has commanded. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15)
